Iowa Missouri Beef

Improvement Organization

The IOWA MISSOURI BEEF IMPROVEMENT ORGANIZATION announces requirements for 2007 FALL SALES

1. All Calves HOMERAISED

2. All vaccinations, castration, dehorning certified by licensed vet.

3. Members and vets must use BQA guidelines.

4. Calves are traceable to raiser and to vet responsible for health procedures.

5. MERIAL Animal Health is exclusive supplier of vaccine for IMBIO.

6. All IMBIO calves will qualify for MERIAL Sure Health and I-Vac programs.

7. IMBIO members use Bulls that meet or exceed the following specs:Frame Score 5.0-7.5Weaning Weight and Yearling Weight EPD's in top 60% of breed. Bulls must be scanned as yearlings and have minimum ribeye areas and maaximum fat thickness allowances. Feedlots will eliminate most outlier cattle by purchasing calves with these qualifications.

8. IMBIO calves are delivered to saleyard, sorted closely for color, size, flesh and quality, then placed into 3 grades, weighted and grouped into part load and pot load lots.

IMBIO calves now will be one of the largest potential suppliers of homeraised, source ID, BQA, sired by bulls with genetic and carcass specs and vaccinated exclusively with MERIAL products. Don't miss this opportunity to purchase calves from an organization that began in 1995 promoting and marketing verifiable Quality Feeder Calves and continue to be on the cutting edge of the Beef Business.

*ALL PRODUCERS MUST HAVE BULLS MEETING IMBIO SPECS FOR NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER CALF SALES IN 2005.*

2007 Bull Standards

For Future IMBIO Feeder Sales

Reasons for IMBIO members to set standards for bull selections.

1. For cow-calf producers to remain competitive they must produce a feeder calf that exceeds industry averages.

2. Feeder calves must have more consistent performance and carcass merit.

3. Members of IMBIO want the IMBIO calves to be known for uniformity, consistency, and high quality, not putting emphasis on breed or color.

*These EPDs will put all bulls in the top 60% of their respective breed for weaning and yearling growth genetics. ( Spring 2006 EPDs for non-parents.)

**IMBIO requires that bull ultrasound carcass measures be done by a CUP or AUP certified ultrasound technician.

Other possible standards to consider would include carcass EPDs for marbling , ribeye area, fat cover and % retail product in the top 60% of their breed.

Carcass EPD Supplement

Due to recent advances in carcass data collection and ultrasound measurements, more beef breeds are including carcass EPDs in their 2006 Sire Summaries. Since EPDs include a larger base of information compared to an individual measurement, IMBIO members may choose to use carcass EPDs in addition to or instead of carcass ultrasound measurements. Your local breeder may or may not have carcass EPDs available - use the EPDs if they have them, continue to use direct ultrasound measurements if they do not.

Carcass EPD Standards

( EPDs at this level are at the 60th percentile for carcass back fat or ribeye area. Choose bulls with these EPDs or above.)
